Welcome to Camp Kiniya!
This page is designed with new parents in mind and hope that it will be a useful place for you to visit before heading to Camp. A summer at Kiniya is an amazing experience, but it can be a little daunting as you get ready to drop off your daughter. We are here to help and you should know that we can’t wait to welcome you! To get a feel for what OPENING DAY looks like, check out the video from last summer HERE. As you can see, we get everyone right into the action, and respectfully send parents on their way so we can have some real FUN! Furthermore, take some time to sit with your daughter and go through our website. Make sure to check out some packing tips from our Junior Leaders, see pictures from previous summers, or learn some of our Kiniya Lingo before arriving.
To see the entire team that will be working with your daughter, visit our Staff page to get to know us. You can also see the 2016 Division Heads, Cabin Leaders who are in charge of the management and programming for your daughter’s division, here. You are welcome to reach out to us directly via phone or email, but please keep in mind our primary focus during the summer is on your child, our campers. Don’t worry, we will be timely in our response.
When will I hear from you/my daughter?
At the end of Opening day Marnie will send an email out to all parents with an update on our first day together. Our Cabin Leaders encourage our campers to write home at least once a week, though many write everyday. Don’t be surprised if the first letter isn’t glowing, some campers will write home on the first day when they are still adjusting to Camp life. We hope you will write back encouraging notes expressing your excitement for their time at Camp.
Homesickness is a very common occurrence at Camp and we are all trained to give your daughter the support they need. If there is a severe case of homesickness or a challenge with behavior, we will reach out to you directly. If your daughter spends a night in our infirmary, or needs to visit the local doctor or hospital, our health center will reach out to you directly.
We’d love for you to join us for Paren’t Weekend and pick up if possible. As we get closer to the date, Marnie will reach out with details regarding your visit. Many Parents note this is one of their favorite weekends of the year as they reunite with their daughter after their amazing summer. Together we enjoy camps activities, feast on a delicious BBQ, and experience our traditional Hymn Sing. In order for your daughter to get the FULL Kiniya experience, we ask that you do not take her home prior our scheduled pick-up day. When campers leave early, it is disruptive to not only their experience, but that of the entire cabin, as one of their cabin family has departed.Parents’ Weekend
