It’s Thursday during lunch break at Camp Abbensen in Hannover Germany! The Kiniya and Dudley German Exchange group has officially been in Germany for 2 weeks now and I think we can all agree that it has been an amazing trip so far!
On July 15th we left Dudley’s shores and crossed the Canadian boarder to fly from Montreal, to Paris, then onto Munich. Within the first three days we were able to experience traveling through Germany, going on the Auto-Ban, spending the night in a castle, and learning about German history. After Munich, we traveled to Hannover to meet our families for our home-stays.
On July 24th we all came together again to begin our camp experience at Abbensen. The camp itself is amazing and we are having so much fun and learning so much.
Having been at Kiniya for the past 5 years, it’s really nice to still be connected to camp while having a totally new experience, not just with German culture, but experiencing a different camp style. The schedule is different everyday, but follows along the lines of an extravaganza or all camp game in the morning, one in the afternoon, and one at night.
We begin every morning and end every night all together as a camp singing songs which makes a close community. It’s the community aspect that reminds me of Kiniya with the excitement of a new schedule and fun differences. There is so much energy here, it’s hard to not to be excited all the time.
Sometimes I can’t believe how lucky I am to have been able to be a Leader at Kiniya for first half, and at Abbensen for second half!
